چکیده

( ) A fundamental study was carried out to understand the aging or hardening of the wax-oil gels formed in the subsea pipelines during the flow of crude oil from offshore wells to shore. The aging process is a counterdiffusion phenomenon where there exists a ( ) critical carbon number CCN , and wax molecules with carbon numbers greater than the CCN diffuse into the gel matrices and ®ice ®ersa. Using a careful analysis of carbon number distributions of gel deposits, collected from a cold finger after ®arious deposition time inter®als, the CCN for the wax-oil system was obtained. A mathematical model, based on a modified ®ersion of UNIQUAC model, was de®eloped to predict the CCN for wax-oil systems. The size of the interaction units for n-alkanes in the solid-phase UNIQUAC model was found to be a strong function of the mean carbon number in the solid phase.

Influence of n-Paraffin Composition on the Aging of Wax-Oil Gel Deposits

An excess Gibbs free energy model is applied to in®estigate the influence of n-paraffin composition on the aging beha®ior of wax-oil gel deposits known to form in subsea petroleum transport pipelines. The aging of wax-oil gels occurs by a counterdiffusion process where wax molecules with carbon numbers greater than a critical carbon num( ) ber CCN diffuse into the gel matrix, and ®ice ®ersa. Formation and Aging of Incipient Thin Film Wax-Oil Gels

A fundamental study of the deposition and aging of a thin incipient wax-oil gel that is formed during the flow of waxy oils in cooled pipes was performed. The solubility of high molecular weight paraffins in naphthenic, aromatic or paraffinic sol®ents is ®ery low and decreases rapidly with decreasing temperature. This property of the paraffins leads to the formation of gels of complex morpholog...

An Experimental Study on Evaluation of Factors Influencing the Viscosity and Viscoelastic Properties of Waxy Crude Oil

The influences of several operating factors on the viscosity of the Isfahan refinery waxy crude oil sample are studied through conducting some rheological shear rotational tests. The Taguchi design method is adopted to determine the impact of factors such as shear rate, temperature, cooling rate, wax content, and asphaltene content on the viscosity of the waxy crude oil. The results show that t...

Compositional Modeling of Wax Formation in Petroleum Mixtures

Heavy organics deposition is a common problem in oil industry, especially in oil production, transportation and processing. Wax or solid paraffin series are examples of heavy organics that deposit. Precipitation and crystallization of wax causes major difficulties in different processes. Based on multi-solid theory, a basic model is modified in this paper for wax precipitation in different oils...
